Peter Mathews, CMG

Board Chair, Chairman & Managing Director

Peter Michael Mathews CMG, FRSA, FInstD, MIex, MICME, Chairman and Managing Director of Black Country Metals Limited, trading in recyclable metals worldwide. Peter is a member of the Bureau of International Recycling in Brussels and until June 2006, was for 11 years the Convention Chairman, playing his part in setting the agenda for recycling as being the best sustainability option by recycling throughout the world. Peter is a past board member of UK Trade & Investment and sits on the CBI International Advisory Panel.
 

In March 2007, he was appointed the Chairman of the UKTI Advanced Engineering Sector Advisory Group before which he was the Chairman of the Engineering Sector Advisory Group. In addition, he is a board member of the British Metals Recycling Association and a past president of the British Metals Federation 1997-99, the Non-Ferrous Club and the Midwest Metals Association.

He speaks widely on international trade and the recycling industry, both in the UK and overseas in countries such as the USA, Brazil, China and Mexico and he has also served on the board of the International Reinforcing Bar Association based in Istanbul and as well as being a member of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) USA, he is a life member of the Ulster Metals Association.

He was awarded his CMG in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours and continues to support international trade throughout the West Midlands region, where he is the President of the Midlands World Trade Forum (consisting of nearly 600 international companies) and is considered to be an international business leader in his own right and as well strongly supporting the UKTI position for International Trade and the benefits it brings to British business.
