Seagate

One of the most advanced nanoelectronics manufacturing facilities in the world is Seagate’s plant at Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

Established in 1994, the plant develops and manufactures read/write heads for hard disk drives for computers and consumer electronics.  It employs 1400 people, many having high engineering and IT skills.

In July 2008 Seagate announced plans to invest $228m help the plant maintain its position as the lowest cost and biggest producer of read-write heads in the world. The success of the factory is evidence of the UK – and Northern Ireland's - capacity to compete in the global market place.
